Ostrog (Ostroh) History and Cultural Sites 2009

A series of color images and brief essays in Ukrainian and English languages describing the environment and history of the city of Ostroh near Rovno (Rivne) in western Ukraine. The historical section spans from before 1100 CE and includes a separate essay on the Ostroh historical museum, which grew to national significance. The history of the Jewish community is briefly described with mention of an early Rabbinical School and the complete destruction of the community in the Holocaust; a pre-war photograph of the Great Maharsha Synagogue is also included. A final essay covers the Holy Trinity Monastery in the nearby village of Mezhyrich. The front side of this brochure, by Kartografiia of Kyiv, includes a detailed street map of Ostroh and a useful road map of the former Ostroh district.
